Veneers Q & A

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic treatment that uses wafer-thin layers of porcelain or ceramic to cover the visible portion of your natural teeth. When you notice the seemingly perfect smile of celebrities or public figures, it’s often a great set of veneers you are noticing.

Advancements in dental technology have made dental veneers more affordable and within the reach of many more people. Working with a highly skilled cosmetic dentist can help you get a set of custom dental veneers that can transform your smile.

What kinds of cosmetic issues can dental veneers correct?

Dental veneers are an incredibly versatile treatment option. Because they can correct numerous cosmetic issues with the same treatment, veneers are a great value as compared to having multiple treatments performed to address different problems.

Some of the issues a set of custom dental veneers can correct include:

  • Difference between the size of adjacent teeth
  • Discoloration that cannot be improved with teeth whitening
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Worn-down teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Minor misalignment
  • Irregularities in the shape of one or more teeth

The ability to address more than one of these issues with the same treatment is part of what makes dental veneers among the most popular cosmetic dental treatments.

What are the steps involved in getting dental veneers?

Dr. Silva begins with a thorough dental exam to learn more about the health of your teeth and gums, as well as the state of your bone tissue. If you decide to move forward with dental veneers, you’ll receive an injection of numbing medication at the beginning of your visit.

Once you are comfortable, Dr. Silva begins removing a small portion of your natural tooth tissue to make room for the veneers. A set of impressions is made to guide the fabrication of your new veneers.

Dr. Silva applies a set of temporary veneers to protect your teeth while the new veneers are being crafted. Once they arrive, you’ll return to have them checked for fit and appearance before being cemented into place. This completes the treatment, and you’ll walk out with your new smile ready to share with the world.
